Driver Education Registration - Cumberland County Schools
Driver and Traffic Safety Education
Driver and Traffic Safety Education teaches students how to operate motor vehicles safely, efficiently, and responsibly. The program includes two phases:
- Phase 1: Classroom Instruction - 30 hours
- Phase 2: Behind-the-Wheel Instruction - 6 hours
These phases work together to provide a complete learning experience.
Registration Process and Important Information
Registration is first-come, first-served.
- Students must be between 14½ and 18 years old.
- Actively enrolled in a public, private, charter, or licensed home school within Cumberland County
- North Carolina law requires both phases for students under 18.
- Students 18 or older are not required to take driver education. They can apply directly for a learner's permit or driver's license at any NC DMV office.
Class Schedules and Times
Cumberland County Schools offers five sessions each school year:
- 2 sessions in the fall and spring
- 1 session in the summer
